Kayaking

In the spring and summer months, a sandspit turns the Gualala River into a long, winding pond that backs up for three miles between redwood-shaded banks. Stop along the river for a picnic or a perfect lazy afternoon of canoeing or kayaking. A local outfitter, Adventure Rents, will shuttle you to an upriver launch, then let you paddle downstream at your leisure. Warm days beg for swimming and sunscreen.

A journal from a man who loves kayaking.
